关于2017年国家留学基金委员会-国际玉米小麦改良中心(CSC-CIMMYT)联合培养博士生和访问学者/博士后项目的通知

根据国家留学基金管理委员会与国际玉米小麦改良中心(CIMMYT)签署的合作备忘录,2017年将联合资助10名中国学者和博士生赴CIMMYT及其所属区域办事处(除中国外)合作研究或联合培养博士生。重点资助学科包括:玉米和小麦遗传育种、种质资源保存、功能基因组学、生物信息学、分子标记和转基因技术在种质改良中的应用、改良产量和抗逆性的生理研究、保护性耕作和养分管理、谷物化学、加工品质和营养及农业经济学等。

国家留学基金委员会提供留学人员在外期间的奖学金,包括生活费(博士生1350美元/月,访问学者/博士后1400美元/月)、健康保险、一次性往返国际机票及签证申请费。CIMMYT承担留学人员的研究费用,从总部往返墨西哥境内各个试验站的交通费及在境外的接送机费用。访问学者/博士后的资助期限为3-24个月,联合培养博士生的资助期限为6-24个月。

CIMMYT成立于1966年,总部设在墨西哥,是国际农业磋商组织(CGIAR)所属的15个国际研究中心之一,是国际农业研究领域最有影响的少数研究机构之一,被誉为绿色革命的发源地,其宗旨是用玉米和小麦科技改善民生。主要优势和贡献包括,拥有的2.8万份玉米和15万份小麦资源居世界首位,并无偿提供所有国家利用;发展中国家约50%玉米和小麦品种含有CIMMYT亲本,年新增效益约35亿美元,为人类粮食安全做出了重要贡献;先后培训了1万多名科研人员。CIMMYT创始人、小麦育种家布劳格博士获1970年诺贝尔和平奖,第二代小麦育种家Rajaram博士于2014年获世界粮食奖,玉米育种家Vasal博士于2000年获世界粮食奖。我国与CIMMYT合作始于20世纪70年代,在种质资源引进与人才培养等方面取得了显著进展,已成为我国小麦和玉米最重要的国际合作伙伴,1997年在中国设立了CIMMYT办事处,目前在我国建立了4个研究团队。国家自然基金会国际合作局冯锋局长现任CIMMYT理事。我国与CIMMYT在小麦和玉米育种及人才培养等领域的合作成就包括:(1)引进了2.3万份CIMMYT资源,合作育成小麦品种300多个,累计推广6亿多亩,目前年推广面积约3000万亩;合作育成玉米品种50多个,在西南地区发挥了重要作用。(2)合作发表论文300多篇,举办国际会议等20多次,培养300多名科技骨干,8CIMMYT科学家获我国政府友谊奖。

CSC-CIMMYT Joint Research Scholarship

Introduction

The CSC-CIMMYT Joint Research Scholarship is a collaborative program between the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) to provide high quality research training for 10 Chinese PhD students, post-doctoral fellows or visiting scientists to CIMMYT Headquarter or regional offices (except China) annually, with the aim of developing international research collaboration between CIMMYT and China.  The program includes but is not limited to the following themes:

Ø      Maize and wheat genetics and breeding

Ø      Functional genomics and gene discovery

Ø      Ex situ germplasm conservation and allele discovery

Ø      Bioinformatics and data management

Ø      Application of molecular markers and transgenic technology

Ø      Crop physiology for yield improvement and tolerance to abiotic stress

Ø      Conservation agriculture and nutrient management

Ø      Cereal grain chemistry, quality and nutrition

Ø      Social sciences and agricultural economics

Duration and benefits

Ø      Visiting PhD students

CSC will provide successful candidates with a stipend+subsidy adding to USD 1350 per month for up to 24 months, health insurance, a round-trip international airfare and visa application fees.

 

Ø      Visiting scientists and postdoctoral fellows

CSC will provide visiting scientists for up to 12 months and postdoctoral fellows for up to 24 months with a stipend (USD1100 per month, and a subsidy of USD300 per month), health insurance, a round-trip international airfare and visa application fees.

 

CIMMYT will cover costs for research and travel within the country of research (for example, Mexico City to Obregon), and airport pickup for visiting PhD students, scientists or postdoctoral fellows. CIMMYT allows Chinese visiting scientists and students to attend all training courses and workshops free of charge. CIMMYT will not ask for bench fees for Chinese scientists and students. Chinese visiting scientists and students are encouraged to stay on campus with room rent charge based on monthly rate.

Ø      Candidates must obtain an official invitation from CIMMYT

Application procedures

 

Ø      Step 1: obtain an official invitation before January 1st for visiting scientists and post-doctoral fellows, and before March 1st for visiting PhD students.

 

Candidates are asked to send their CV to the CIMMYT Beijing Office to identify a suitable CIMMYT supervisor, and get an invitation to CIMMYT. The research plan is then developed by the candidate and his or his supervisor. CIMMYT Beijing Office contact: Dr. Zhonghu He, Email: zhhecaas@163.com

 

Candidates can also contact supervisors directly, and we also encourage CIMMYT scientists to contact candidates directly, with a copy to Dr Zhonghu He.

 

Ø      Step 2: Apply to scholarship on CSC website before January 15th for visiting scientists and post-doctoral fellows, and before March 15th for visiting PhD students.

 

Ø      Step 3: The successful candidates will be informed by CSC, and then contacted by the CIMMYT Beijing Office for visa preapproval from Mexico. The following documents will be required by email:

-        Passport scan copy

-        Visiting period

-        Research proposal
